Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone, & Beginning Piano
Tyler Cassidy is an American jazz musician specializing in woodwinds, piano, and composition. Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he began playing saxophone at the age of 12 for concert band in middle school, and then later in high school. During his high school years, he learned about jazz and was part of a funk band called 51-50. During college, he studied jazz performance and was part of various combos/bands and local groups such as The Jazz Masons, JaBudde, and The Blue Mile. He is a musician and educator who has a wide range of experience as a leader and sideman specializing in original music and jazz standards. Now living in the DMV area, he has performed in many settings with groups such as Fiasco, Blue Dot Jazz Troupe, and leads his own band called The New World which features his own original compositions. In his original music, the theme of adventure takes a priority and revolves around improvisation in many different contexts and arrangements.
Tyler has experience in education including private lessons as well as teaching in Falcon Cove Middle School back in Florida. He graduated from Florida State University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education and a minor in music. He is currently enrolled in the Graduate School for Education and Human Development at George Washington University
studying for a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
