Music Lesson Policies

We offer weekly lessons for students ages 6 and up with our excellent music faculty. Lessons are available for a myriad of instruments. For a full list, see our Teacher page.

To start lessons, please call 202-244-7326 to set up a lesson time. When coming in for your first lesson, please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled lesson in order to finish registration.

Billing (September-June)

  • Lessons have been reserved for you at a specific time and day. This is your time for which you are responsible until you provide a minimum notice of 2 lessons to discontinue.

  • Lesson payments will be charged on the 1st of the month prior to lessons being given. The charge for one month of lessons is either $200 -or- $250; this charge is based solely on the number of lessons allocated in the next given month. (e.g., if my lesson day is Monday and there are four Mondays in the month, I will be charged $200) This rate reflects a half-hour weekly lesson for one student.

  • A one-time $25 registration fee will be assessed for each new lesson account; lessons will be pro-rated for new students beginning in the middle of the month.

Billing (July-August)

  • Lesson payments will be charged at the end of the month.

  • If you provide at least one-week’s notice that you will not be attending a lesson, you will not be charged.

  • Students are expected to attend each lesson on the day and time that has been reserved for them.

  • To receive a rescheduled lesson, it must be requested no later than one (1) business day before the regularly scheduled lesson.

  • Missed lessons may only be rescheduled within 30 days before or after the date of the original lesson date.

  • Unused reschedules may not be used as part of the 2-lesson cancellation notification.

  • In the event of a teacher absence, a qualified substitute will be provided for that day. There are no credits for lessons missed if a substitute has been provided.

  • If you provide at least 1-week’s notice that you will not be attending a lesson, you will not be charged for lessons occurring between December 24th and January 1st

  • Middle C Music will be closed on the following holidays. Students will not be charged for lessons that would normally have occurred on these holidays: Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, and the 4th of July.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does Middle C Music provide at-home lessons?

A: All lessons from Middle C Music take place in the store. We have nine studios and 20+ teachers at our location. Unfortunately, we do not contract with any of our teachers to provide at-home lessons.

Q: Why am I charged for a lesson even if I give one week's notice that my student will be absent?

A: Think of signing up for lessons as a weekly commitment to your teacher. When you are absent--even if you give one week or more notice--your teacher will still be at the store at your scheduled lesson time. As such, you are charged for that time commitment to your teacher. However, when you do give us at least one week's notice of an absence, we will do everything in our power to reschedule your lesson and make sure you and your teacher get the most time possible to work on your music!

Q: What if my student misses a lesson because they are sick?

A: If your student is absent from a lesson due to an illness, you are still responsible for paying for that lesson time (see above). However, we do realize that illnesses happen at inconvenient and unpredictable times. With that in mind, please call and let us know about the absence as soon as you can and we will do our best to reschedule that lesson for you.
